OECD/IISI Steel Seminar 2006
Held in New Delhi, India on 16 & 17 May 2006, this meeting was attended by over 200 delegates from governments, intergovernmental bodies, steel companies and associations, and the press.
After a global overview, there were regional panels giving their perspectives on national, regional and global developments. Indian presentations tended to reflect the recently issued National Steel Policy. The second day opened with a session on raw materials and transportation, followed by a panel on globalisation in the steel industry. The afternoon opened with an environmental focus, with speakers on Kyoto, the Asia-Pacific Partnership and the International Energy Agency. The last group of speakers addressed Doha developments.
The OECD has announced that a new round of talks aimed at abolishing subsidies in the steel industry will begin in November 2006.
