Wisconsin Regional Writers' Association, Inc.

Description

The Wisconsin Regional Writers' Association, Inc. was founded in 1948 by Professor Robert E. Gard of the University of Wisconsin. The purpose of the organization was to draw together the many diverse creative elements in the state and provide an opportunity and an outlet for that creative writing talent. Two years after forming the organization, the members developed the following creed:

A person's deepest experience of life is essentially solitary; at the same time he or she desires to communicate to others his or her present experiences, and the rich memories of the past. In the recreating and the sharing of these feelings, experiences, and memories, the Wisconsin Regional Writers' Association, Inc. has its being and meaning ...

Let us believe that the mark of the cultured man and woman is the ability to express himself or herself competently in language; that this ability can be gained best through study and application of the basic principles of creative writing; that with this study and application grow enlightenment and discrimination; and that the democratic process of government is safest in the hands of a cultured, enlightened people.
