About CasALoggia.co.uk

Casa Della Loggia is a charming old two-bedroomed house which was renovated in 2007. It is situated in the 'Antico Borgo' - the historical centre of Calitri - a labyrinth of pretty cobbled streets leading up to a piazza and an 11th century castle... Calitri is a town of some 5,500 inhabitants. It is in Campania but on the borders of the regions of Puglia and Basilicata. It is approximately 530 metres above sea level so even on the hottest day there is generally a breeze.. The Antico Borgo is in the oldest section of the town- the centro storico - at the top of which are the remains of a castle which predates the 12th century. The Borgo itself is a labrynth of lovely old houses which have, over the centuries, been built into the hillside. Stone and marble stairs - frequently under old stone arches - connect the streets. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside with many rivers, lakes, woods and archaeological ruins.

There are many cafes and restaurants in both the Borgo and the new town in addition to those listed below. Eating out in Calitri is cheap and the food is good. A single espresso in most cafes costs less than €1. There is no internet connection in Casa Della Loggia but there is an internet cafe at the top of the old town behind the post office.

In the countryside of Irpinia, the area in which Calitri is located, and the adjacent Vulture there are numerous ancient villages high on the hills and mountains and ruins of old castles and cathedrals. There are visible signs of the Romans, the Longobards, the Aragonese and the Bourbons.
