General Information

The Friends of the East Broad Top, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, tax-exempt educational and historical society dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the East Broad Top Railroad National Historic Landmark in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. It was organized in 1983 by persons interested in the history, preservation, and restoration of the East Broad Top Railroad (EBT). FEBT's nonprofit, tax-exempt status was recognized by the US Internal Revenue Service in 1984 and 1986. Currently FEBT has approximately 825 members, who reside throughout the United States and in several foreign countries. In addition some 150 other individuals and organizations receive FEBT mailings on a reciprocal or complimentary basis. Regular FEBT membership costs $30.00 for twelve months; other types of memberships are available. FEBT is not affiliated with the East Broad Top Railroad and Coal Company.

In 1989 FEBT's activities in support of the continued preservation of the EBT were recognized by the Pennsylvania Federation of Museum and Historical Organizations and the American Association for State and Local History. In 1990 the Pennsylvania Federation of Museum and Historical Organizations honored FEBT with the S.K. Stevens Award -- the Federation's highest award for preservation efforts.
