Description

The Center for Financial Studies, founded in 1967 and known until 1996 as the Institut für Kapitalmarktforschung), is a financially independent research institute affiliated to the University of Frankfurt. (Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität). Its sponsoring body is the Gesellschaft für Kapitalmarktforschung e.V., which counts amongst its members more than 90 banks, insurances, consulting firms and commercial enterprises. The CFS conducts independent and internationally-oriented research on financial markets, financial intermediaries and monetary economics and interacts as the German partner with other international research centres specifically on the subject of financial market architecture and the role played by banks and stock exchanges. Moreover CFS participates in international research networks.

The CFS aims not only to provide accessible answers to questions on monetary and capital market theory within the framework of regular events, but also to offer a platform for discussions for particularly topical issues, to encourage the informal exchange of information, and to stimulate the academic debate in Frankfurt via various publications.

Focal points for research within the program areas are determined by the CFS Program Directors. Renowned researchers (Fellows) from at home and abroad, who are regular visitors to the CFS, collaborate on the ensuing research projects together with the academic staff at the CFS. The results of this research are presented at international conferences and published in international journals. In addition, within the framework of the individual programmes, workshops and research conferences are held to discuss prevailing issues. The co-ordination of this research is supervised by the Research Advisory Council of the Gesellschaft für Kapitalmarktforschung e.V. as well as the Directors of the CFS.
