Early life
Roda Monroe was born in Los Angeles/California and started singing and writing songs at a very early age with an organ. She was exposed by her parents to a variety of popular and untraditional music. Her family moved 5 times by the time she entered high school. This made it hard to keep friends and she found herself withdrawing more and more into her music and singing.
Career
The 1990s found Monroe in and out of many rock bands as part of the Los Angeles musis scene, where she learned to play the guitar and performed mostly cover songs. By the late 1990's, she had moved all over the country, bought a keyboard, and began writing likable songs for the local music scene. Although her popularity grew she never stayed in one place long enough to create roots.
In 2006 she became a part of the online music scene and developed a small cult following, singing cover songs and her own compositions. She remained on AudioStreet.net's, Top 1 and 2 Funk Chart for 3 months straight and still remains in the top 20. After thousands of requests by fans to download her songs she decided in late 2006 to record her first album on an indie label, Coming to Life Records. Shortly after, tragedy struck and she lost her voice for nearly a year due to GERD inflaming the tissue surrounding her vocal chords causing them not to vibrate properly. This, gave her a raspy sound which was unsuitable for the songs to be recorded on her new album. After nearly healing in early 2008 she began recording her first album with co-singer Big Ray. The anticipation of the album "Coming to Life" named after its label, has kept her loyal fans waiting patiently. With her upcoming first album the artist is unafraid to be exactly who she is. It may also be, quite simply, her big breakthrough from the secluded online world of music into the common mainstream.
