Description
The white ribbon is dedicated to the memory of all women who have died in pregnancy and childbirth. Worldwide, every minute of every day, a woman dies of pregnancy-related complications nearly 600,000 women each year.
Most of these deaths can be prevented. The White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood unites individuals, organizations and communities who are working to increase public awareness about this needless loss of life and to promote safe motherhood worldwide.
The members of the global White Ribbon Alliance are committed and concerned individuals, international and local NGOs, United Nations agencies, bilateral aid agencies, professional associations, students, doctors, obstetricians, nurses, midwives and many others committed to raising the world's and their community's awareness of safe motherhood and that women do not have to die during pregnancy and childbirth.
