AdobeIllustrator.com is a graphics design program specifically for vectors.

Adobe Illustrator is an application from Adobe Systems for creating and editing images using vector graphs.

In the computer world, there are essentially two types of images, vector-based graphics and images that use bit-mapped pixels. While software like Photoshop is great for bit map images like photos, while Illustrator is used for creating compound vector graphs of lines and curves defined by mathematical objects denominated vectors.

The vectors describe the graphs according to their geometric characteristics. For example, a wheel of bicycle in a vector graph forms from the mathematical definition of a circle drawn with a determined radio, in a specific position and with a color of concrete filling. It can move, change the size or modify the color of the wheel without for that reason losing the quality of the graph. The vector graphs do not depend on the resolution; that is to say, they are possible to be climbed to any size and to be printed in any output device with any resolution without losing precision or clearness. (Unlike bit-mapped images that can get grainy or "pixely" when used at sizes large than they were originally intended.) Therefore, the vector graphs constitute the best option for the graphs of text and things like logos which can be represented in geometric forms.

The current version of Illustrator as of Feb. 2007 is CS2.

New Features in Adobe Illustrator CS2

  • Application of colors -- In Illustrator, a color determines the model of used color to visualize and to print archives of Illustrator. Illustrator bases its ways of color on the models of color established for the description and reproduction of colors. The models more common they are HSB (hue, saturation, brightness), RGB (red, green and blue) and CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black).
  • Live Trace -- With new version of Adobe Illustrator, you can easily and quickly convert scanned images, photos, or other bitmap images to editable and vector forms using the new Live Trace feature.
  • Control Palette -- Now, it’s easy to discover and find new and other features with the help of a control Palette that eliminates the need for opening multiple palettes
  • Custom Workspaces -- With the help of custom workspace it’s easy to select the workspace of your choice as it displays only the workspace you need to work on. This feature saves your time and allows easy access to the workspace of your choice.

Creative Suite Integration

Adobe packages it's most popular graphic design applications as part of a Creative Suite. These applications include: Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Premium versions of Creative Suite also include Acrobat Professional, Dreamweaver and GoLive, although it's been announced that starting with Creative Suite V3 (early 2007), GoLive will be removed in favor of Dreamweaver.
