Description
The philosophy of the Cranbrook Peace Foundation is rooted in the concept that conflict is natural. Conflict can provide an important opportunity for change and a violent response is neither inevitable nor necessarily productive. Conversely, we also believe that peace is a mainstream desire. A peace activist protesting a war and a soccer mom involved in the PTA can both play a role in promoting peaceful coexistence.
The CPF is structured in such a way to respond to the needs of the local community. In general, it is not an advocacy organization for specific issues.
The first goal of the Cranbrook Peace Foundation is educational. The primary function is the Annual Lecture.
The second goal of the Peace Foundation is to serve as a granting agency. Peace organizations or individuals, primarily in southeastern Michigan, may apply for funds for specific projects that are not part of their regular operating budget.
