- In 1976 the nuclear arms race between the United States and the U.S.S.R. continued to escalate. Jo Anne Brooks and Elsie Lamb, after training in Washington D.C., called together Holland area peacemakers to begin educating area citizens about the nuclear arms race. Since then Holland Peacemakers has called for the closing of the School of the Americas here in the U.S., urged social justice for people in Columbia, and protested the use of military force and occupation of Iraq by the U.S.
