Description
When the Spaniards came in 1848, Davao was already a melting pot of culture as they saw a community of Bagobos, Mandayas, B’laans, Mansakas, Manobos, Atas, Tagacaolos, Guiangans and the Moros. Don Jose Oyanguren and his group built a Roman Catholic settlement and a small chapel that was named Nueva Vergara, in honor of Oyanguren’s hometown in Spain.
