Biography
I am a Downhome Girl! I grew up in Evansville, Indiana, a small city in the middle of the country, right next to Kentucky. We had an above ground pool, and a grassy lot next to our house; we walked to school and rode bikes in the street. My mom grew all kinds of vegetables and flowers, cross-stitched, quilted, knitted and crocheted, painted with watercolors, made suntea on the patio, and we ate homegrown strawberries and tomatoes every single summer day of my young life. Two parents and four kids took summer vacations to Florida and Nashville (to visit the Country Music Hall of Fame, naturally) in our giant station wagon.
In 1995 I moved to NYC to become an actress. After working in "the biz" for 2 or 3 years, I found myself blowing off auditions to hand-paint wrapping paper for a friend's birthday, concoct a new cake recipe, or explore the Flower District for craft ideas. I dreamed of making my apartment a beautiful blend of the city and the country - I could still garden, I'd just do it on the fire escape. And, I could really cook, considering all the farmer's markets around.
