Formed in 1919 Halliburton is a global company that specializes in oil well site services, engineering, construction, technology and various other fields. Halliburton is a Fortune 500 company and is based in Houston Texas. It acquired Dresser industries in 1998.

Specific services provided by Halliburton for oil and gas reservoirs are fluid systems and production optimization. Vice President Dick Cheney retired from Halliburton in 2000 to campaign for the presidential elections and received a severance packaged of $34 million; Cheney still maintains ties with the corporation. Plans to move the headquarters to Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are in progress although corporate offices will still be available in the U.S.

Other services provided by the corporation are drilling, optimized computing services, pipeline & processing services, Reservoir testing and analysis, Sand control, service tools, well completions, well interventions, wireline and perforating, cementing and consulting services. They provide services for natural gas, deepwater mining and bringing old reservoirs back to life.

Specialization

The company also specializes in drilling, evaluation and digital solutions. Examples of products and services available are HyperCut hard rock bits and the DeepQuest service, which is a weighted fluid system. It also produces stimulations and software products like 3D Drill View KM to aid in exploration and reservoir activities. It lost close to 900 per million per in 2002, 2003 and 2004 due to asbestos related costs from it’s Kellogg Brown and Root division which was formed after it’s acquisition of Dresser industries.

It has also suffered employee losses due to Iraqi insurgent attacks. Corporate revenue for Halliburton in 2006 was 22.6 billion with a net income of 2.3 billion.
