On 18 October 1999, the offical SiTE Domain Registry commenced online. The official registrar, NIC.ST, announced on that day that the global Internet community already interprets its Top Level Domain .ST as short for "SiTE". This meaning is well established with thousands of already existing Domain-holders in countries all over the world.
COM stands for "commercial". ST stands for SiTE. Think about it. Most people prefer to be part of a context where they are visiting a web SiTE. They do not always want to feel that everything is strictly commercial. In this sense a SiTE Domain feels a lot more genuine and authentic.
