Company History
The company was founded by Kaufman and Broad in the year 1957 to serve the entry-level housing market at Detroit. In 1961, this was the first homebuilders company to offer its shares to the public. After entering the market at Phoenix in 1962, in 1963, the company expanded its operations in California and established its corporate headquarters in Los Angeles. By establishing Kaufman and Broad Mortgage Company in the year 1965, the company also had the credit of becoming the first homebuilders company to provide financial services to the buyers. In 1967, the company entered the France market and began trading in the New York stock exchange in the year 1969. In 1998, the company acquired Estes, Pridemark, and Hallmark in Tucson, Denver and Houston respectively. The company introduced KB Home Studio in the same year and championed a revolutionary concept in homebuilding. In the year 1999, the company acquired Lewis Homes and became the largest homebuilder in Nevada. This was followed by a series of innovations and developments in the market. In a joint venture with Shaw group, the company established Gulf Coast division and formed KB Home/Shaw Louisiana LLC in 2005. The third KB Home-Martha Stewart community opened in Perris, CA, in 2007.
