"Surgical Clinic" on Poonamallee High Road, Madras, run by late Dr.U.Mohan Rau, MS, FRCS was a medical landmark since 1940's. Late Dr.U.Mohan Rau was a good clinician, excellent surgical technician and a fine humane doctor. Countless people from all classes of life were treated at this surgical clinic. He was also one of the outstanding teachers in surgery at the Madras Medical College and Govt. General Hospital, where he served as Honorary Prof. of surgery and Honorary surgeon.
After 1989 the Hospital was temporarily closed following demise of Dr.U.Mohan Rau. It was entirely rebuilt in the same premises completely modernised and considerably expanded as "Dr.U.Mohan Rau Memorial Hospital". The new Hospital was inaugurated on 08
It is entirely managed by family members of Dr.U.Mohan Rau. viz., Dr.M.Mohan Rao, first son-in-law, Dr.Ramesh Kumar Mohan Rao, first grandson, his wife Dr.Sukhada R.Rao, first grand daughter Dr.Anuradha Rao and her husband Dr.R.Sanjay Rao.
