Mother Beads, Inc. - LAMPWORK

Description

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:

My bead-making career is the result of serendipity, hard work, and a high tolerance for sleep deprivation. As the stay-at-home mom of four demanding youngsters (and one grown son and a grandaughter), I envisioned no more than a hobby when I began making glass beads in early 1998, with a kit I bought from a book club. Neighbors and strangers in grocery stores were my first, unexpected customers: "May I ask where you got that necklace? Oh! Would you make one for me?" Creating a website to sell my work in March, 1999 has drawn almost more demand than I can keep up with. (Hence the ensuing lack of sleep.) My studio is in my home, where my whole family is now involved in the business.

I have studied primarily at the cole Durs des Coups and also with Leah Fairbanks and Loren Stump. I work both hard and soft glass, using Nortel and Lynx torches. Besides beads, I make murrini, paperweights and sculptures. When not at the torch or spending time with my family, I travel extensively to exhibit, demonstrate, teach, and sell my work at shows such as the Best Bead Shows, Bead & Button, Bead Expo, Bead Fest, Urban Glass and many others. My jewelry designs can be found in local galleries.
