Flexible college timings help site creator to post and maintain nRaged.com. Rania Al Hussaini reports
Ten students from the University of Wollongong in Dubai have teamed up to start nRaged.com, an entertainment website that caters to the needs and concerns of people from all age groups.
"It is a community website where people can register for free," says its creator Kenny G. Thomas, a business and IT adminstration student. The website has various sections that each deal with a specific topic. They include E-books, Education Rage, Beauty Rage, Classified Ads and Cricket Pitch.
The emphasis is on entertainment. "Our content is specifically aimed at the large number of entertainment seekers," says Kenny, 20.
Excerpts from an interview with Kenny:
How and why did you decide to create this website? There is no place on the internet where we could all share stuff; we want more than mere forward emails as a source of entertainment online. So we decided to create our own entertainment website.
How did you create this website? This site was created by me without any sort of professional help. I also own and manage around 27 other websites.
How did you manage working on the website and studying? I have a flexible timetable for college. This helped me manage my timings to do the site, which I work on regularly. Our university has a good faculty, who take personal interest in helping out students so if we don't manage to understand something in class , we can reach the teacher without any hesitation.
How was the work divided among all of you? I do all the work on the site, editing and maintaining it. Hozefa Lokhandwala and Maroufh Hussain manage the sites posts (uploading material on the site). The rest of the group are founder members.
How and why should someone register on your website? Registering is free and users just need to visit www.nRaged.com and follow the links.
But why register? We have the latest gossip and loads of new interesting topics every day, an addictive game site and a bunch of cool people.
What kind of entertainment do you provide? It ranges from videos, images, jokes - you can also browse through our site through your WAP enabled phone completely free of charge. Our articles have been posted on numerous other sites and forums. When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get nRaged.
Who are your sponsors? We are currently running Google Inc. sponsored ads.
How many have registered so far? We got around 500 members in less than six months. Since April 2006, our board has had 1,416,16 visitors. We get more than 500 hits a day.
Future plans
Kenny G. said: "We are still in the process of starting to offer our VIP members - those who have a small number of posts like around 50 and participate in the forum discussions - free websites and website creation services and very low costs.
