Oregon Entrepreneurs Network (OEN)
Sure, Oregon is known for its beautiful coastline, its wine and organic farming, and its alternative culture. But it's also known as one of the best places to be an entrepreneur, and that's due in large part to Oregon Entrepreneurs Network.
OEN is the largest group in Oregon assisting entrepreneurs. Established in 1991, the nonprofit creates opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors to meet each other, and provides ways for entrepreneurs to meet with advisers and business service professionals who want to help dynamic startups grow and thrive.
Staff and volunteers at OEN create and run programs that collect the talent, knowledge, and resources of the entrepreneurial community to build viable companies, improve the quality of life in Oregon, and have fun.
Programs for enterpreneurs -- and investors
OEN offers a number of networking programs to help entrepreneurs and investors meet. Programs also offer programs to help entrepreneurs hone their business and fundraising skills. The group also hosts popular events that bring together entrepreneurs and people looking to invest in new companies.
- Startup Services -- Designed to help entrepreneurs plan their businesses and execute these plans. Services include evaluating the long-term potential of business concepts; seminars on developing a business plan; review of business plans with a team of experts; and review of presentations and training by a panel of professional investors and service providers.
- Executive Education Series -- A 16-part series to help entrepreneurs and founding executives with business issues such as go-to-market strategies; building sales organizations; and developing financials and valuations.
- OEN Online Community -- A place where blogs and discussions are posted to help entrepreneurs with the small things of starting a business. There are helpful links, and is a judgment free forum to express concerns, questions, or comments on anything in the business community.
- Pub Talk -- Informal presentations by startup founders and executives looking for feedback in a non-threatening venue -- a pub. Held the second Wednesday of each month except in July and December.
- SwapMeet -- A quarterly happy-hour meetup for people looking to connect with entrepreneurs, early-stage companies and the people who help them. Opportunities to work with, work for or start new companies are increasing as the Oregon economy grows, and SwapMeet offers the chance to meet the people at the heart of new-company activity. And it's free.
- Portland Angel Network and Women's Investment Network -- Private angel investor groups that meet regularly to view presentations by companies looking for early-stage investment.
- Angel Oregon -- A day-long conference, Angel Oregon is the premier education, investment and networking event in the Northwest for angel investors and early-stage entrepreneurs. The weeks leading up to the conference provide angel investors the chance to learn due diligence, while pre-screened entrepreneurs receive training in how to make a pitch. The event culminates with awards and investment prizes for winning companies.
- Venture Northwest -- Venture Northwest (formerly Venture Oregon) is an annual conference that draws institutional investors and investment bankers from across the western United States to learn about the hottest emerging Northwest companies and the region's growing business sectors. Venture Northwest 2009 takes place on Thursday, October 29th, at the Nines Hotel. Stay tuned at Venture Northwest.
- OEN Tom Holce Awards for Entrepreneurship -- An annual celebration of the Pacific Northwest's individual entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial companies.
- Entrepreneurs Bus Tour -– Every quarter, OEN puts up to 10 early-stage entrepreneurs in a van and takes them to visit two experienced serial entrepreneurs at their companies. The entrepreneurs get brief tour of the business and each senior entrepreneur shares valuable lessons learned on the road to success.
- CEO Roundtable -– Presidents and CEOs of emerging Northwest companies join other CEOs at lunch to discuss business strategies and current challenges such as team-building, raising capital, and choosing distribution channels.
