Portland Outdoor Wedding

Maureen McGrain - I wanted an alternative to the church-hotel wedding formula when I got married. My home state has so many amazing outdoor venues.

Oregonians consider the outdoors their temple. The breathtaking landscape practically begs for an outdoor wedding. A landscape often speaks to a couple's interests. Whether the betrothed fell in love on a Mount Bachelor ski lift, a stroll on Cannon Beach, kayaking in Bend or over pints at the Kennedy School, every couple can weave their own romance story into their wedding location.

Getting married outdoors in Oregon can be tricky, though. There are only a few "safe" months of consistently dry days, and even then, the clouds can roll in. The Farmers' Almanac can help, but brides better have a tent on standby. Rain on a wedding day is good luck, right?

Despite Oregon's fickle weather, the risk is worth the reward. The state offers a bounty of incredible outdoor wedding venues. So go ahead, take a deep breath and get hitched at the base of Mount Hood or at one of the state's many wineries. Your out-of-town relatives will finally get why you moved to "ORE-e-gone", and you will always have a special, close-to-home destination for anniversary getaways.
