Description
The Prairie Virtue Doll is a creation born out of the esteem we hold for our ancestors' courageous immigrant spirit. Our grandmothers - Antonia, from the Ukraine and Johanna, from Norway - made the long sea voyage to America at the turn of the century. In our comfortable modern world it is hard for children to imagine what it was like for a young woman to leave her family and homeland and to strike out, alone, for an uncertain future across the wide ocean. Yet that pioneer spirit is the bedrock of our American values.
Each of the twenty Prairie Virtue Dolls is named for one of the qualities of the pioneer spirit. Together they comprise the strength, courage, and steadfastness of our grandmothers. We offer these dolls, lovingly handcrafted out of simple, natural materials, as a way to preserve and pass down the virtues cherished and upheld by our forebears that made this country Godly and great.
