Description
Single Parents Association of Rochester is still a grass roots organization. It is our mission to provide a supportive network where parents and children can come together with a common family dynamic while providing emotional support and age appropriate activities for children and the parents who love them.
We believe the best way to achieve this goal is to increase awareness of single parent family issues within our community by reaching out to other groups, community retailers, and to elected officials.
As the single parent of a nine year old daughter, I found myself becoming a recluse. I was not in a relationship and found that I did not have the energy required to keep up with my daughter if we went on an outing together. As she has gotten older, I find that she wants to enjoy different experiences with children her own age and not just go out with mom. I also found that she needed to be able to identify with other children who came from single parent homes. The same holds true for me. That is why I started SPAR. I knew that I could not be the only parent in Rochester who felt the way I did and I decided to get back into the game of life and help others to do the same. Ipso facto...a SPAR was born!
