The Surfer

Description

The Surfer is a "Search Engine" or some would rather call it a "Web Portal." This website is compiled full of useful links and useful search forms. The most resourceful and the most useful links, selected based off of awards or advertisements have been selected to be a part of The Surfer. Unlike most search engines/web portals, you will notice that The Surfer does not place descriptions after our selected links, logos and search forms. This is because The Surfer's mission is to cut back on the number of pages you have to go through to get to the links/websites you want. I realize that first time users will be a little lost, but after you have been on The Surfer/or just the Internet, you will find that descriptions of popular sites such as Yahoo! or C-Net would just get in the way and would expand on page clicking, scrolling and time. We all know how time just fly's by when your on the Internet Another objective of The Surfer is to eliminate the usage the "Favorites" folder or bookmarks. Instead of bookmarking all those cool websites like ZDnet or Infoseek you could bookmark just one, The Surfer! Spend your time bookmarking more personal pages, like articles, pages with in well-known sites and your family and friends sites. Hey, and if you should come across a well known site or a very resourceful site that you use allot, drop us and e-mail and I'll add it to The Surfer! You will find that after "Surfing" The Surfer for a while that you will be quit knowledgeable of the Internet. You will also find yourself spending lees time hunting for the information you want.

The idea had came about when I had first signed on to the Internet about two and a half years ago. I simply no idea what was out there nor did I have the knowledge of how to find anything that was out there. For the longest time, I thought AOL(America Online) was the Internet! Signing on for the first time and using AOL you can see how that can be confusing! What was a server, an ISP or a search engine. Really, I had no idea. But when I had stated to get the hang of things, I found myself answering the same questions for my family and friends! It was nerve racking! Also at the same time, my favorites folder had way to many links in it. So in taking the time to learn HTML Hyper Text Mark-up Language, I figured I would put an end to all this. Since I didn't have a job, I figured what the heck!!

One sole individual, Dan Roach maintains The Surfer. Upgrades and modifications may be slow at times because it is quite a workload for one person! Lack of a sponsor, I do this in my spare time. Not only is this a hobby of mine, it also serves the same purpose to me of why The Surfer was created.
