Nathan and I just created a new template to put a link on each doctor's page, back to the LASIK page for their city. Here's an example: Jacqueline D. Griffiths, M.D. I would recommend putting this on each doctor's page. Also, I used Template:TOCright. Do you like the way that looks, with the Table on Contents on the right? edit changing page names

Hi Obed, do you know about the move feature that's used to rename pages? When you copy wikitext from one page and put it in another (new) page, you lose the edit history. You know about "history", right? Anyway, you lose the history when you do a cut and paste. The "move" feature, on the other hand takes the history with it. Does this make sense? I'd recommend "move" when pages need to change to show the doctor's whole name, or any other reason. peace, TedErnst

Yes, having a page for each of their offices makes sense. I would leave the main page at LASIKPlus.com, and have the individual city pages links from there, with those city pages having links to the doctors in that city, etc. Is this what you were thinking? Great! TedErnst

This week is pretty tough for me to skype. Could we try talk page notes in the meantime, and hopefully I can get on at a time when we can skype?

I like your edits on the tour. It changed a lot, as you saw, after my talk wtih Julia. Do you have any questions / problems with the changes? We now need to do quite a bit of further cleanup, including making sure introductino and conclusion really work.

As for facilitation, did you see Earle Martin took you up on your inviation to facilitate? His questions seemed very "challenging" rather than supportive, and I wonder how we can help him become a bit softer, so we can move towards consensus, rather than push people into solidifying their positions? Hi Obed, I haven't heard back from any of the folks I contacted with respect to the AboutUsLogo ... I think it's time to move them to an "unreachable" status.

Update: It looks like you've already done a great job of moving folks to the "inactive" status. Also, I definitely don't think that Sander belongs in that category. See for example this logo he created Image:Logo_idea_150707.png. Perhaps it makes sense to begin to engage him in the WhoWeAre process about why this particular logo is meaningful to him?

edit LASIK next cities

I wanted to finally get in touch with you and Tanwir directly since our LASIK efforts are truly coming together in this next phase. The work both of you have done on the project has been so great and helpful to AboutUs and , furthermore, to me personally as I'm making the sales effort. So thank you so much for the good work (and remind Tanwir I said this too, for I think I forgot to thank him directly on his talk page!)!

As far as next steps for LASIK, I'd like to have a larger list of potential calls to come from so I can operate more efficiently. Often times it takes several calls and a couple of conversations with different people to even get to the sales pitch, so I'd like to be able to push on many fronts at once. We'll be bringing this up for official prioritization in our content and community meeting next week, so I'd like to get a list of 5 cities or so together by then. I'm thinking that Portland and Manhattan should be on this list, but I'm open to whatever suggestions you all have.

So, I'll create a space on the project page where this list can exist. Let's all throw our two cents in on where to put our work next.

I went to http://www.aboutus.org/AboutUsStaff today and this page is redirected to a category page which contains only one staff member. I am concerned about this. If you look to the left & click on the link that says "what links here" you will notice that many many pages link to this page. AboutUsStaff needs to be a good page that will provide meaningful information about the company and the people who make it work so well. What were you thinking about this page & what it should be?

Hi Obed, this is personal preference and a bit ranty, so take it for what it's worth. I strongly prefer to say "100% agreement", rather that "100% consensus". This is because for many people consensus is by definition 100%. So if we were at 95% yes, we confuse people by saying 95% consensus. 95% agreement is accurate however. 100% consensus seems redundant and strange, which 100% agreement seems natural to me. Hi Obed, by googling my own website I found an entry on myself here and so started to explore this interesting site by modifying my own entry. One thing that I just couldn't find in the Help section was how to edit that very first word underneath the "edit" arrow. I don't want to sound pedantic, But "Annegret" is actually my first name, and I hate to see it spelled with a capital E smack in the middle. I there any way I can change this? There must be...only I can't find it...thanks a lot in advance, Annegret with two lower-case E's :-)

Kasey came up with a great idea that I'm in love with for tracking new people that are welcomed as opposed to the old Welcoming People Log page. Essentially by month every new user welcome gets a category like Category:2007-10 Welcome to AboutUs! so they can easily be tracked and sorted by year/month on Category:Welcome to AboutUs!. So you can see that I just added this to my deal-y at User:KristinaWeis/Welcome3 and if you could do the same to whatever you use and hopefully remember to change it on the first of the month. And if you would like to add a category like this to your talk page with the month you joined/were welcomed, it can double as a badge of honor of when everyone joined. Here's my thinking on how we proceed with whoweare. Kasey and I send the staff email today. You, Asad, Kasey and I do tutorials with the staff Weds & Thurs to get them signed up. We answer questions, etc. Friday we do talk page messages for everyone on the "haven't seen it yet" list to invite them to take a look. We include the inactive notice with those messages (including Umair and Blake who are no longer with the staff). We wait, and listen. While we're doing that, we need to add the stage 3 consensus poll thresholds and such.

Hi Obed When I checked the link and exited from it, there appears to be a few adult content pop ups, that was my cause for concern, if these have now stopped then I have no issue with the flagging being removed, perhaps if we wait 14 days and then it is rechecked, if the pop up's are still not around then we lift the content block. --Atrades 02:00, 27 November 2007 (PST)

Hi Obed Unfortunately I linked to my page from related domains before reading the guidelines. I might have overdone it and it now looks as if all of these have been removed. Is this because this has been interpreted as spam or because the page owners themselves have removed them? If the former, if I start again and stick to the guidelines will they stay in situ.

Hello... I have been trying to edit a site on about.com, but every few weeks the template layout changes. First, they added "Take the Wiki tour" and "Watch an intro video" buttons; now, more recently, "Influence Us" buttons were added.

This is all being done on the right side of the text description of the Web sites. In turn, the formatting of the Web site text changes and gets scrambled up, so everything needs to be reformatted again!

Couldn't these people - whoever dream up these changes - possibly add all these features on another area, so that the Web site formatting doesn't get affected? Just a thought... Thanks, Nauplia

If you are formatting a page based on what the domain box looks like on your screen, in your operating system, and in your browser, it's more than likely "broken" for most other people anyway. Effective webdesign doesn't depend on something like the domain box. Notice what happens when someone increases the text size because they're eyes aren't as good as yours, for example. Hi - I agree about proper Web design, however the editing tools available on the AboutUs pages don't allow for any work-arounds. For instance, the problem in question could be solved with simply line breaks, which however are ignored by the program, which forces the text to continue to the end of a page. So next time there is a template change, all the text, along with any pics gets rearranged all over the place. This forces one to add alt-0160 dummy spaces to fool the editor - which doesn't make sense. If line breaks were possible, then one could anticipate the changing size of the Info Box as more content is added, and one wouldn't have to reformat the text with every change. It's not that difficult to design a Web page that looks decent on most common browers and most common settings, however one still needs some basic tools. Regards, Nauplia

I'm confused as to why you took the SouthBucksBridgeCentre.co.uk off the SpotlightArticles/InProgress list. Is it because they don't want to be listed as promoted? Or because you are done with the page (at which point I need to move them to "Spotlighted" and they still would keep the category on their page)?

In either case, can you ping John and I on these rather than editing the various SpotlightArticles lists? Right now we are trying to hold it all together ourselves to make sure the clients have been taken care of until the CRM system can be set up to help with the tracking and then we'll be training everyone on the proper steps for the nuances we've been doing.

Hi Obed, right now I'm working to optimize the categorization of FeaturedPages and HighlightedPages. So first of all I think subpages such as

etc. should not be categorized in to Category:AboutUsSpotlighted. What do you think?

Oh, I figured it out, it was auto-included with the template, so now I made the inclusion optional. If it's a subpage, then use {{PromoteMeUnderConstruction|cat=no}}. The parameter "cat" actually takes anything, so even if you type "cat=yes" still it will turn on the code that I added to the {{PromoteMeUnderConstruction}} and thereby didn't include the Category:AboutUsSpotlighted.
