MarkDilley I have been an avid soccer fan since my early teens. My younger brothers, longer.

Football fever has struck the United States! We call it soccer, though.

Many more people are watching the games online than four years ago. That means some websites broadcasting the games are bound to get too much traffic from time to time, making for choppy video transmission.

You'll want to switch sites if that happens, so we've assembled a list of great sites for watching the World Cup.

The first sites listed are obvious and easy places for watching the live stream. The peer-to-peer sites require a little advance planning -- very little in most cases. You'll need to download the software that enables you to join each site's network. These downloads should be pretty quick. The streaming sites that require a player also take a little advance setup.

No matter who you're cheering for, these sites will keep you up on every defensive and offensive play!

Free Sites

ESPN.com (visit) - ESPN 3 is an official outlet for watching the games online, though sometimes it doesn't perform as well as you'd like.

{{{2}}} (visit) - Pretty reliable game viewing here. Just search for "World Cup." Justin.TV is a feeder for several of the sites below.

{{{2}}} (visit) - Links to free online sports and TV shows. You have to do a little hunting and pecking to find a good feed.

Univision.com (visit) - Hone up on your Spanish skills! The site is in Spanish, but you can get the English version by clicking the "World Cup 2010 coverage in English" button at the very top left the home page.

CBC.ca (visit) - The Canadian Broadcasting Company's site for coverage of FIFA's 2010 World Cup games, including stats on players, lists of injured players and more.

{{{2}}} (visit) - The soccer fanatic's online source for watching games, tracking scores and player performance and special events.

{{{2}}} (visit) - Living on one side of the planet doesn't mean you have to miss your favorite shows, news, and entertainment broadcast on the other side. TvBunch.com lets you watch programs and live streaming broadcasts around the world for free.

{{{2}}} (visit) - Ustream.tv delivers online broadcasts of popular shows, gaming options, news, animal interests, and sports right to your computer.

{{{2}}} (visit) - Uses other streaming services like Justin.TV.

Free Peer-to-Peer sites

By far, new startup Veetle.com is the winner here, and is what I am currently using.

{{{2}}} (visit) This site is awesome! A good place to watch the games. World Cup is sending take-down notices to Veetle.com, so a specific channel might not last for very long, but that hasn't usually happened while I'm watching. Go to the Sports section and pick your game.

{{{2}}} (visit) - SopCast.org is the simple and free way to broadcast audio and video, and listen to the radio on the Internet. Anyone can become a broadcaster with SopCast.org's peer-to-peer (P2P) technology.

{{{2}}} (visit) - Lets you watch live sports on its peer-to-peer (P2P) network.

Free Streaming Video requiring a video player like VLC

{{{2}}} (visit) suggests using VLC. Find the stream for live World Cup games at http://cctv.ws/2/ITV1.

{{{2}}} (visit) - Whether you enjoy basketball, soccer, football, or hockey, FromSport.com is your online connection for viewing the games you want, when you want to watch them.
