WorldWild.org is a group dedicated to the preservation of endangered species

World Wildlife Foundation

We are a legally registered not for profit organization. Our non-profit foundation registered number is 377183 and we have in house rules stipulating that no Director can receive any salary, wage, bonus, commission, “company” car, free medical insurance nor any similar benefits. This makes us leaner & cleaner than almost all charities. More focused too we believe.

Our main aims at the present time are to buy conservation land in Patagonia (Chile & Argentina). The wildlife in Patagonia is endangered including Pumas, Rhea [Ostrich], rare deer species, Eagles, Condors, Patagonian foxes, Pygmy Owls & many, many more.

Our main aim is to educate the public on the plight of endangered animals and our news page offers materials regarding endangered species and their plight.

Programmes

Our work is based firstly and foremost on different projects as follows:

Urgent Current Programme -- Our current programme is dealing with this by enrolling the landowners of Argentina & Chile to help preserve the Puma despite the depredations the Puma makes by killing sheep & Guanacos which are the lifeblood of the landowners.

In return for not killing or trapping the Pumas we will compensate enrolled landowners participating in our scheme who submit claims for compensation where Pumas have killed the livestock of the landowner. We then have the co-operation of landowners. In fact we have their enthusiastic participation.

Urgent Land Programme -- Steppe is the typical environment of most of Patagonia, & covers a huge area of land. It is one of the biggest single habitats in the entire world & is around 750,000km2 in size (to clear things up, it is 5 times bigger than England for example). The Steppe can be separated into a number of subdivisions, including the Coastal Steppe, which covers up almost 3000 km, & consists of a strikingly stunning coastline. None of this was protected as National Parks or nature reserves. Most land programmes preservation efforts had gone into protecting the more known pampas, the rainforests of the Andes & maritime environments. What we want to do is develop a sort of eco tourism lodge; therefore our urgent Patagonian land programme is set up for buying land.

How You Can Help

Donations are important as they grant perpetual consistence of the organization and we are doing this through the ClickAndPledge.com [1] system which proves to be secure and easy to follow. However, of the same importance is making people aware of our cause. Any person can be a part of our goal, by sending a story or a picture related to the environment and to the animals plight. We will try our best to make the following step in saving another animal's life.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site of “The Caves of The Painted Hands” at Rio Pinturas

This famous wonder of the World is part of the wildlife conservation land and depicts hunting scenes and the famous hands paintings made in the caves over 11,000 years ago. The World Wildlife Foundation state that they are privileged to take on the responsibility of conserving these wonders for generations yet to come. Pumas have raised many Puma cubs in these caves. Pumas range over the more than 27 square miles (17,290 acres) of this Conservation Range-Park and so the conservationists are doubly privileged to accept the responsibilities involved.“The Caves of the Painted Hands” are World renowned and generate continuous global publicity from TV, newspapers, academia, artistic comment & (currently) from postage stamps portraying the World famous paintings. The name of the surrounding host conservation range-park would be forevermore associated with “The Caves of the Painted Hands”.

World Wildlife Foundation and World Wildlife Fund (WWF)

As many persons may have confusions regarding the relationship between the 2 organizations, a little explanation needs to be done. Fortunately for some, unfortunately for others, it's just a name coincidence. The main point is that both of the organizations work for the same aim: a better planet, where all species live peacefully and keep the trophic chains in a perfect state.

WWF has been doing a lot of strong, beautiful and committed actions related to the preservation of environment and its endangered species for many many years.

World Wildlife Foundation is much younger as a charity organization, but works for the same goals and strives to make a difference for all the world to benefit from.

Featured Page Nomination

WorldWild.org was selected to be a featured wiki page, after having been nominated by the article's creator or some other AboutUs community member. Below is the discussion that led to it's being featured.

  • First nominated on 08:57, 6 March 2007 (PST)
  • This page is coming along nicely, but think there might be a few things that might take this "over the top" to become a great wiki page. Here are some ideas (you don't need to do all of them, but a couple would help polish article nicely):
    • Maybe a little more information (a couple paragraphs maybe) for each of the programmes The World Wildlife Foundation are supporting
    • Information on how people can help/donate to your organization, or if they have questions
    • A couple more relevant links, maybe the 100 list or other organizations your support
    • Information on the land that you are buying
    • Pictures, pictures, pictures. Either of the land or a few of the animals you support.

  • I'm waiting for more debate here, people. Drop a line anytime. Adela
  • Adela, thanks for all the hard work. This looks great. I'm going to feature this in a few minutes. -- TakKendrick
  • Thanks a lot, I'll continue to add articles, here, where there will be needed. I really enjoy aboutus.org.
