Wooster Radio officially went on the air Wednesday, September 17, 1947 at 5:58AM as WWST and WWST-FM. Local reaction was immediate and supportive. An Open House for the general public was held on September 20th, so area folks could view their new radio station. However, the next evening in a bad storm, high winds blew down the giant radio tower. A temporary antenna was erected and the station returned to the air the next day. The tower was rebuilt, and last time we looked, it was still standing.
