Opportunity, Depth and Diverse Role Models

The purpose of Durham Academy is to provide each student an education that will enable him or her to live a moral, happy and productive life. In order to prepare students for the world they will live in, a school needs to be a place of opportunity, depth and diverse role models. Durham Academy is a place where children can safely engage with the world and ideas, meet high standards and learn to take risks. We want to help children become confident and skillful thinkers and explorers. We want them to succeed in any subject they approach. We want them to be bold in the questions they ask and ambitious with the knowledge they seek, not only as students here, but throughout life.

Durham Academy provides students with a variety of activities throughout their careers here, ranging from drama and music in the preschool to advanced placement art courses in the Upper School. Students in the Middle and Upper Schools belong to student-led clubs according to their interests and a wide variety of sports are offered starting with Intramurals in the fifth grade. In addition, Durham Academy offers an after-school and summer program to provide enrichment for Preschool, Lower and Middle School students.
