Anchor text is text on a web page that is linked to another web page, or another part of the same web page.
Here's an example:

People who are interested in optimizing web pages for search engines like to choose their anchor text carefully, making sure the words have something to do with the page they link to. If you care about SEO (search engine optimization), you will choose to link this way:
