History of USAA and USAA.com
Unable to secure auto insurance because they were high-risk, a group of military officers founded USAA in 1922 to self-insure each other. Eventually, USAA expanded to serve officers, NCOs, enlisted men and women, and their families with a complete range of property & casualty insurance, banking, life insurance, and other investment products and services. USAA has pioneered direct marketing; the greater part of its business is carried out over the Internet or telephone.
As early as 1941, the membership of the USAA exceeded 22,000. USAA opened its New York Office in 1948. By 1956, a new headquarters was completed in San Antonio. In 1973, the membership was opened to National Guard and Reserves. In 1983, USAA federal savings bank and USAA brokerage services were established. In 1997, the membership was extended to enlisted personnel.
One of the earliest buildings of the company is on Grayson Street across from the Quadrangle of Fort Sam Houston and USAA has always been headquartered in San Antonio, TX. Later the company moved to Hildebrand & Broadway near Brackenridge Park. In the late 1970s, USAA once again moved to its current headquarters in Northwest San Antonio.

Investments and Financial Planning
USAA's Investing services include discounted brokerage services, no-load mutual funds, annuities, IRA's and college savings plans. There is a consultation service available for a flat $150 fee per topic (e.g. debt management, estate planning) where a certified financial planner can help give you the advice you need to set you on the right path.
