Citizens of a democratic nation enjoy fundamental rights like right to equality , right to practice religion , right to freedom , rights for cultural and education , right to freedom of expression , rights against exploitation and right to seek constitutional remedies. Along with these rights a citizen also has to shoulder certain responsibilities and pay taxes regularly. The duties of a citizen are to abide by the constitution and to respect national flag and national anthem . He should follow noble ideals of freedom fighter and defend the country, to promote the sprit of harmony , integrity of country and preserve our rich cultural heritage. To shun violence and safeguard public properties etc.

The citizens of a democratic country only demand their rights but don’t discharge duties properly towards nation. For example in a vast country like our where most people are illiterate , basic necessities are yet to be fulfilled , don’t caste their vote for right candidate and still believe in superstition. They fight amongst based on religion and there by don’t uphold the integrity of the nation. Recently violent protest erupted in mumbai towards untoward incident happened to downtrodden people at vidharbha , maharastra.

Common man was put to lot of inconvenience due to this , public properties were destroyed , trains were burnt , buses were pelted stone. Is this the way to show dissent?? We have to learn from our great ancestors , how they protested under British rule : under most inhospitable conditions , in a Non violent way.

We have to be more cautious to safeguard our fundamental rights as given by constitution when enemies of India are waiting to destabilize us. Let us give a deep thought about this .

In spite of all these issues our country had progressed as a democratic country after independence. We were able to build Huge dams , large road network , Power plants , improvement in social and economic conditions of millions of our country men. Hence viewed from all aspects democracy appears to be taking roots in our national life , which were absent for 1000 of years. We should give it a fair try , this is the only hope for our prosperity.

Lastly I request all those present here to take a pledge that each one of us will realize our rights and duties towards making our motherland a powerful , prosperous and peaceful nation
