INTRODUCTION The ongoing information revolution is influencing the every facet of human life be it work, culture in library. Advancement in the Information Communication Technology (ICT) has completely changed the information scenario in the society and has great impact on information acquiring, processing, storing and dissemination. As a result of this advent the 21st century known as Networked Electronic Information Society or Information age society evolving towards networked community with electronic information as the central commodity. Now we are in the era, which has revolutionized the concepts and practices of library and information science. The major development in this sector is wide spread availability and uses of a various kinds of electronic resources which are produced by applying modern information technology. Generally electronic resources means sources in electronic format which are communicated via electronic media. Electronic media is computer-based media for storage and dissemination. Electronic resources i.e. e-resources in which ‘e’ means not only electronic but also ‘e’ means efficient, effective, empowered, economic, and enhanced services. Today’s we have a variety of electronic resources namely, Electronic Resources on Optical Disc. It includes CDs, DVDs Electronic Resources on disk: It includes 1. Floppy Disk 2. Hard Disk. Electronic Resources on Magnetic Tapes. Remote Electronic Resources – It includes Internet/ World Wide Web, online services and other networked sources: 1. e-journal 2. e-book 3. OPACs etc. SCOPE OF STUDY The study of being undertaken to find the use of electronic resources in the selected engineering college Libraries in Delhi :- Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology, Delhi ,GURU TEGH BAHADUR INSITITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, Delhi,Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Netaji subahs Institute of Technology, Delhi ,Delhi College of Engineering, Delhi , Guru Gobind Singh Inderprastha University, Delhi. Use of electronic resources will be studied by taking many indicators. As it is known that goal of academic library is to meet the teaching, learning, scholarly, research and other needs of their faculty, students and affiliates, and to do so effectively and efficiently. Electronic resources are more fully stable than print collection so library should build up electronic collection. Use in this study includes consultation within library and its users. 2. OBJECTIVES The topic of study is “Use of Electronic Resources in the selcted engineering college libraries in Delhi. A comparative study is being on the following libraries:- Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology, Delhi ,GURU TEGH BAHADUR INSITITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, Delhi,Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Netaji subahs Institute of Technology, Delhi ,Delhi College of Engineering, Delhi , Guru Gobind Singh Inderprastha University, Delhi. The objectives of study are as: To know the purpose of using electronic resources by different categories of user; To determine which electronic resources is frequently used; To ascertain the user’s preference of search engine; To find out the hindrance and problem faced by users while accessing and using electronic resource; To know the importance of electronic resources over the traditional resources; To make suggestions for improving the electronic resources collection, to increase use and to provide quality services for the benefit of users. 3. LITERATURE SURVEY Literature survey is helpful in knowing the literature on the subject of the study. It also helps in finding out the availability of methods and in ascertaining sit any such study has already been conducted. Through the Literature survey one can gain the knowledge about the survey. So for proper study and before starting any survey one should do Literature survey. 4. METHODOLOGY The study of use electronic resources will mainly based on information furnished by the users of library. Help of other devices will also be taken into consideration to fulfill the required information. The methodology which will followed are as 4.1 Questionnaire In order to collect the comprehensive and relevant data for the study, the questionnaire method will be used. In this a questionnaire containing a number of questions pertaining to the objective under investigation with blank space for giving the answers will be prepared. Questionnaires will usually be distributed personally to the respondents. The success of this method depends mainly upon the ability with which the questionnaire is designed and the degree of response. 4.2 Interview An interview will make with librarian of the libraries. It will help in verifying facts and extracts some unrecorded facts to supplement the information received through questionnaire about libraries. A discussion with staff and users will also make to get relevant information about libraries and use. 4.3 Observation In this direct observation of the number of consultation and types of document used will be made. On that basis we can find which electronic resources are used more can find which electronic resources are used more during a day, week or a month and so on. One will obtain direct, first hand information by following this method and is rather time consuming and thus feasible with a careful chosen sample. 4.4 Tools & Techniques For analysis of collected data statistical tools and techniques will be used. Standard coding and editing is used for presentation in the simple tabulation form. 5. LIMITATIONS Ø Every research work has certain limitation. As the study is related to academic sector which covers a wide area of human life and people engaged in play a great role in shaping future generation in information age and so study is limited to only few selected engineering college libraries in Delhi namely:Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology, Delhi ,GURU TEGH BAHADUR INSITITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, Delhi,Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Netaji subahs Institute of Technology, Delhi ,Delhi College of Engineering, Delhi , Guru Gobind Singh Inderprastha University, Delhi. So the records of individual acts of use may be possible but for any wider group such records are different and expensive to obtain due geographical constraints and time constraints. When the study is to be completed within stipulated time frame so a specific topic of study “Use of electronic Resources of the selected engineering colleges libraries in Delhi.: A comparative study” is selected. 6. TENTATIVE CHAPTERS The study would have the following tentative chapters: Chapter 1: Introduction: Scope, Objective, Limitations, Methodology, and References. Chapter 2: Engineering Educations in India. Chapter 3: Electronic Resources: An overview. Chapter 4: Library of Guru Gobind Singh Inderprastha University, Delhi: A profile. Chapter 5: Library of Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi,:A profile. Chapter 6: Library of Guru Gobind Singh Inderprastha University, Delhi: A profile Chapter 7: Library Netaji subahs Institute of Technology, Delhi, Delhi: A profile Chapter 8: Library of Delhi College of Engineering, Delhi: A profile Chapter 9: Library of Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology, Delhi Chapter 10: Data collection, Analysis, and Interpretation Chapter 11: Suggestions and conclusion.
