Alltheweb is now beta testing a new search service called "LiveSearch". In case you have not heard of Alltheweb, it is best known as an engine that is similar in it's general simplicity / appearance to their competitor Google. Compared to Alltheweb's normal search service, Livesearch adds an auto complete feature that provides related searches and phrases as you type. This auto complete feature is similar to Google's own beta search service called "Google Suggest" but Livesearch has a few improvements worth noting.
Currently less scrupulous competitors will use various means to create clicks on competitor's ads with the sole purpose of forcing the advertiser to pay for the additional clicks. While keyword research and selection has always been a challenge "click fraud" has exploded into a nightmare for search engine marketers and destroyed their marketing budgets.
Microsoft's Live.com search service scored a major coup this month by obtaining a contract with Amazon.com and it's related properties A9, Alexa, and IMDB (the internet movie database) which previously had contracted for search results through Google. Now when searching on these various sites you will see a Live.com logo but more importantly, this means that MSN could potentially gain 8% or more of the traffic that once poured into Google from Amazon's searchers and it could create a stronger demand for MSN's new adCenter service.
