Just in case you want to know way too much about me, I've put all this down here for you. I should point out, I grew up in the US, and have lived abroad since 1997, in Taiwan and Ireland. I'm one of the 'spawn of the diaspora' who has claimed her Irish citizenship, and gladly. I've been in Ireland since May 2000, and I have lived in Donegal and Sligo.
my background in visual arts
I studied fine arts, focusing mainly on sculpture and video. My work got smaller and smaller, until it became digital. I enjoy making things but I had a major dilemma with filling space up with more stuff. I made miniatures and models of spaces, and most of my favourite works were gifts I made for people I loved. I enojyed making things for a very specific audience, and knowing specifically how these objects would be received, and playing with the secrets between us.
me and ICT
I can't really say that I enjoyed learning BASIC in elementary school, or that I enjoyed the many syntax errors I met when trying to program games on my father's Commodore 64... it wasn't until I met the Internet that my interests were piqued. I was amazed with being able to go into the public library and log into an IRC channel and chat with friends on the other side of the US that I became increasingly interested in computers, and started making really naff websites on Geocities. Communication was the main attraction, and continues to be. This has become especially important to keep the many ties I have made with people and friends through my travels.
