We are an organization whose primary goal is to help inmates receive letters from pen pals. Inmates have been turning to us in the tens of thousands since the year 2000 to find friendship. We post their personal ads, photos and contact information on WriteAPrisoner.com. You, the viewer, can then select which prisoners you would like to correspond with. You will find a broad range of prison pen pals on WriteAPrisoner.com. We host profiles for inmates on death row, in maximum-security prisons, county jails, international prisons and more.
People from all walks of life choose to correspond with prisoners. We have former judges who write, men and women in the U.S. military who are stationed overseas, criminal attorneys, pen pals of every religious affiliation, and a very broad range of people in general. Pen pals even have the option of emailing their first message to the men and women prisoners featured on WriteAPrisoner.com. We then print and send these emails twice monthly. We also host ads for inmates who are simply looking for legal help with their case. Breakthroughs in science and technology have made it possible for innocent people to be freed from prison, but first someone must take an interest in their cases. The legal ads posted on our site describe the unique circumstances surrounding each case.
While the vast majority of our time is spent helping inmates find new friends via our prison pen pal ads, we provide many other resources geared toward helping inmates, their families, and the Departments of Corrections. We provide a forum where people just like you post and respond to current prison-related topics. We created a Books Behind Bars program, which helps under-funded prisons receive much needed educational materials. We provide a comprehensive Prison Resource Directory with links to many helpful organizations. You can visit our Prison Videos section to see news and documentaries on prison life. Our Back to Work section allows family, friends and Departments of Corrections officials an outlet to post inmate résumés free of charge. We provide printable games and resources that can be tailored around an individual inmate’s needs or interests. WriteAPrisoner.com also donates a portion of its proceeds from the prisoner pen pal ads to our latest endeavor, the Children Impacted by Crime Scholarship Funds. Because the inmates pay for their profiles to be posted on our site, they are indirectly contributing to these worthy causes. Our programs do not cost taxpayers one cent. In fact, by reducing recidivism, we can reduce our need to build more costly prisons. Now there’s a cause worth supporting!
