someone changed my password
I just received an email telling me that my password has been changed:
Someone (probably you, from IP address 217.171.129.68) requested that we send you a new password for AboutUs (http://www.aboutus.org/index.php).
This IP address does not belong to me. And i changed my password back to what it was, however i`m concerned. What happened?
Thanks, O.
- I have no idea, but it seems the system worked. The person that asked for a password reset wasn't able to get into your account because of the email confirmation. Please let us know if it happens again. TedErnst | talk 07:16, 8 November 2007 (PST)
Need to have my profile removed
I enter your website because I was looking for jobs. How I got into your website I don't know, but I don't want to have my name as my username and I don't want my picture to be posted there either. Please remove my profile since I never decided to become a user of your website. You can email me at Thanks in advance Ana
- Your user page as well as the portrait you uploaded on AboutUs have been removed. Let me know if you have any question. Best, Asad | *~talk~* 22:38, 13 November 2007 (PST)
To Wapda Support
After many hours trying to find a contact that worked I end up here. This is my story . . . I have been getting 20+ emails a day since I came to your site. About two weeks ago I noticed that I was getting one or two a day, than nothing! Everything is being blocked by something. Even the sites that have been emailing for years are now blocked. I lowered the settings on my email monitoring programs but it's no better.
Please help me to understand why my incoming email is being blocked?
Your contact links are not working. I keep getting a failure notice from everyone of them. And why are the contact links not active on the contact page?
regards, Wayne
- I think you may be in the wrong place, Wayne. We are not Wapda, we are AboutUs.org. TedErnst | talk 15:51, 14 November 2007 (PST)
LongPages.
I have tackled around a hundred LongPages now. Possibly more.
Ray King gave me permission to chop EFL/FeaturedLanguageSchool/Geography/UK/England/London up.
But there are others.
I would like permission to chop the following into smaller pages:
- RK Discussion Archive [124,489 bytes]
- ContactUs/Previous [82,305 bytes]
- FeaturedWikiPageTable [70,184 bytes]
- AboutUsLogo:Discussion [63,810 bytes]
- Howard Davis [41,834 bytes]
- SpokenWordChurch.com[42,295 bytes]
I probably can do them the same way I done the glossary: UNESCO.org.ve/Glosario_Mesalc. For the SpokenWordChurch.com page since I am unsure if the information is relevent or not, I can just do something like spokenwordchurch.com/info1 and so on to keep the pages to a shorter then 32k extent.
And since Clan:Gilehery [99,844 bytes] is a userpage. I am curious to leave it how it is, or chop it up or something else. Staff had made notices in the user's page that AboutUs.org ins't their personal blog/webhost.
Now finally what is the highest you guys allow for page to be before it is to be broken up?

- Nick, I don't believe you need permission to do anything around here. The trick is, if your edits ruffle feathers, they may end up being changed back. For this reason, some people find it's good to go slow. For example, if there was a category of 1000 items and you wanted to change the name of that category, might be best to do 10-20 at a time, slowly, so people that object can easily change it back without having you do all 1000 and then them do all 1000 in reverse. So in this case, the discussion archive, the contact us, and the logo discussion are all really easy. Just do them, no possibility of problems. The featured wiki table, I'd like to do with you, if you don't mind. I've been thinking of ways to do it and would like to talk about them with you. The other two, I haven't reviewed (or the user page you mention). I'd recommend holding off on them until some more discussion. In fact, maybe start a discussion on each of those pages directly instead of here? TedErnst | talk 15:45, 17 November 2007 (PST)
- Thanks for the quick reply. I understand what you mean. I will do them slowly. I will start discussion pages for the others soon as I can. So I'm guessing those will be for the long haul.
- I am curious about your ideas on the FeaturedPages. =). Thanks.

New Template
To deal with the discussion issue, I have created a new template Template:LongPage. It may help others, and it will be easier for me. I had it also take the page title and add /talk to the end in a link form to be the discussion page. (Since they're not categories there is no default discussion page.)

NoBot
traduction-biomedicale.fr and traduction-biomedicale.com have been edited per NoBot. Please contact me with further concerns. TedErnst (talk) 09:06, 19 November 2007 (PST)
As a follow up to my earlier post... You pulled the automatically generated information from the About Us article (virtually instantly, thank you), but I would like you to pull the entire article. I do not want any mention of my websites to appear on aboutUs.com. Thank you, Kevin Erwin
- We are a resource for the entire internet. We do not delete pages. Just as a blogger does not need your permission to link to your site, neither do we. Have you taken the WikiTour to see what we're all about? TedErnst (talk) 15:25, 19 November 2007 (PST)
You're right, you don't need my permission. But this is a netiquette thing; a question of respect toward others. You made a link to my web-site, I found out and now I'm asking you to remove it. The blogger that you spoke of, if responsible and serious in what (s)he does, would respect this request.
Is AboutUs a responsible and serious participant in the World Wide Web? Yes? Than you have a moral duty to respect the wishes of others.
Once again, I'm asking you as a matter of respect and good net citizenship to pull the entire article concerning my website.
Thank you Kevin
- You're right about a blogger, I suppose, unless that blogger was writing something negative about you and felt you were trying to supress it. And a newspaper article about you would certainly link to you without regard for your request, especially if it was something negative. In any event, I've moved one of the pages to Traduction-Biomedicale.fr Kevin L. ERWIN Traduction biomédicale Français - Anglais and created a new template so that it wouldn't link to your site at all. If this works for you, I'll do the same to the other page. TedErnst (talk) 08:00, 22 November 2007 (PST)
No, the problem isn't that you're linking to my website per se; if all AboutUs was doing was linking to sites, there wouldn't be a problem. The problem is that anybody can come along and write anything about my site in your wiki. Which means that I need to monitor this, and I don't have the time nor (especially) the desire to do that.
My site targets French speakers; you say that you monitor for vandalism, but are you going to be able to identify vandalism in French? Or for other sites, in German? Spanish? Russian? Swahili?
It's not the links to my site that are problematic, it's the presence of an editable "article" about my website on your website. Thus, again, I'm asking you to pull the entire article. There is another choice, which would be a "lock-down" option; the article remains, but is un-editable. That would be fine for me as well.
And in any case, my website is of absolutely no interest to you; 30 hits is a great day for my site (knowing that 15 of them are bots!).
Look, I assume that as an individual, I'm fighting a losing battle here. I'm betting that whatever I say you're not going to pull the article, so do go ahead and re-establish the links to my sites(but still "NoBot" please); I might as well take advantage of that at least.
But you must know that your business model is going to offend a lot of website owners, and that you're risking a load of individual or class-action lawsuits because your website has the potiental of causing prejudice to other businesses.
You really need to establish a 'thanks but no thanks' policy for website owners. Especially those like me, who have itty-bitty tiny businesses that interest no one but their potiental customers.
Hoping that my message will at least get the AboutUs management team thinking...
Kevin
- Kevin, thanks much for this conversation. It's very helpful. I'll change it back to the NoBot] with links and then I'll get back to you within a week after I've had a chance to talk this over with others. If you'd like me to email you at that time, send me a note to that I can reply to? TedErnst (talk) 08:51, 23 November 2007 (PST)
- I can be of some help in French and I have a friend who is fluent in French, Persian, and a few other languages I forget. I have experience in the language and was fluent a few years ago but I have enough knowledge buried in my mind to have an idea what is going on.
- NickBurrus 09:01, 23 November 2007 (PST)
I've noted your e-mail address, but in principle, I'm not bothered by the fact that the conversation takes place here; I think it will be of interest to others...
Thank you for taking what I've said here into serious consideration. I'll look forward to your coming remarks.
Until then, my best, Kevin

Devine Painters
Hello,
I typed in our name Pearl Painters to Google and it came up with Devine Painters - which was our old company. We were sued and are banned from using this name. Can you please remove our listing from your website as we will be sued again if the owners of Devine Color think we are continuing the use of the name Devine in ANY way.
Thank you, Cathy
- What is the website you are referring to? Please send us an email at from the registered email address for your domain and we'll remove the bot generated information from that page. Please see OptOut page for information on how you can get this bot generated information removed from AboutUs. Best, Asad | *~talk~* 23:56, 20 November 2007 (PST)
- Perhaps this is it? DevinePainters.com - I have changed the page to indicate that this website no longer exists. Hope that works for you. Let me know? TedErnst (talk) 06:42, 21 November 2007 (PST)
