Design or change our own AboutUsLogo

I would suggest creating a poll with different logo's. Starting with the logo made by Vinh Nguyen. Of course I would enjoy seeing my logo idea to change and morph into a great logo for AboutUs.org.

1. You can vote for the best logo.
2. You can change a logo and make an altered version of that.

Hey Mark. There are "zillions" of NZ Maori language Pages and other NZ pages that need Name corection so I am slowly changing them including all the whatlinkshere which I have found I can access in the way you suggested (tab out before move). Oh such a big job but there's no easy way and I'm passionate about getting it right (the place names/page names. Not sure what to do if a page name contains a - (hyphen) Do I just leave it there? It doesn't then obey the rules of CamelCase but I've left in pre-existing hyphens so I don't upset anyone. --User:Di | talk 18:55, 28 July 2007 (PDT)

If you remove a hyphen, you break the naming, and people who are looking for that page won't find it. Is it logical to remove a letter or a hyphen when it is legitimately part of the name? No. Understand that if I look for "some-site.com" (for example) and someone removes the hyphen, I'm not going to find the page I'm looking for and I'd be very disappointed. You have to see things from the average user's point of view. Hyphens which are part of the name should be left alone. Letters which are part of the name should also be left alone. The only thing that should be changed is case, nothing else. Things like Microsoft.com could be referred to as Microsoft but that's a naming issue (which is under discussion) and has nothing to do with what you're suggesting.

Imagine if I removed an "o" from Microsoft.com. What do you think would happen? It's the same thing if you remove a hyphen. Nathan ^(talk) / 01:58, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

I'd kind of figured that out so I've been leaving the hyphens. Also as pointed out some pages have the same name except for a hyphen and are two different webpages. I've been getting it right *phew!*
I haven't used Skype (have used Paltalk a lot but not this year. Always told I sound funny..LOL at Kiwi accent) I'll get my son to download Skype and I will also and then when I'm confident with it, I'll tell you..and then you can laugh at my accent too ;-)

I need guidance in renaming pages that contain letters like NZ.. We use capital letters NZ but many pages are lowercase. In some this makes some sense like Horizon-nz.co.nz although it is more correct for it to have capital NZ, someone searching might use the lowercase (both ways the search engine should find the page).
BUT what about a page like Nz-events.co.nz? This should be "NZ-events.co.nz" as N and Z are beginning letters of words and that's how we write NZ.
The usual NZ way of reading/writing NZ is like this page AucklandNZ.com
Other letter combinations I've come across are RSA (Returned Services Assn) and ANZ (Australia and NZ) and some others. I've used capital letters as these make sense to people from NZ. Oh also DHB which is District Health Board. You can change the capitalisation to anything you like (I agree that NZ should be capitalised), however, you can't add letters that aren't there or remove letters from the name. Hopefully you understand now! :) Nathan ^(talk) / 03:55, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

The good news, Di, is that capitalization does not make any difference anymore, in terms of people finding the page in question. I agree that the changes you're working on are necessary from an aesthetic point of view, once someone does find the page, but in terms of them finding it in the first place, doesn't matter at all. ReviewVenue.com's vacation voucher a scam

Hi, Mark, I am trying to find a way to let others know of the scam on the ReviewVenue.com website. If one purchases product one is supposed to recieve a vacation voucher for free for 3 days 2 nights at cities listed. I know the one about "if it's too good to be true", but I bit anyway. On the blog, a poster stated that they had received the vacation voucher, so I tried. I had to send $12.00 for a "processing" fee. I was ok to lose $12.00. I sent a money order so that they wouldn't have my personal financial info. Now I recieve a reservations questionaire asking for a $50.00 deposit and personal financial info. At this point it stops. The reservations company's name is worldwide travel center. I have found numerous complaints on this company. Most from people who sent the $50.00 only to find out that there were never rooms available when they wanted to reserve rooms. Then never received their refund of the $50.00.

As your website is attached to the reviewvenue site, could you please show this info to protect others from this scam?

Scouts Canada

Mark, I can not believe that atv/ctv has only had a 2 thats 2 minute coverage on the CJ70 Jambaree in Quebec. There are 8000 scouts there and there was a 29 car train from Halifax to Qc. that gathered many Maratime scouts This is our youth at work

You can't feature a page that doesn't exist. You first have to create it before you can nominate it for featured page. AboutUs does not feature external sites without a corresponding DomainPage. It's the corresponding DomainPage that is featured (which represents the site), not the site in and of itself. If you insert {{FeatureMeNew}} into any wiki that has nothing to do with AboutUs, nothing's going to happen. Make sense? If you need some help creating the page (it's a subdomain so you have to do it by hand), please let me know. Nathan ^(talk) / 23:17, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

You can edit the domain page for you subdomain here: KookyPlan.pbwiki.com, and you should be able to add the template for being featured there. Or you can choose to edit PBWiki.com as well. Let me know if you have any questions - I have also sent you an e-mail. KristinaWeis

Wrong information on site

This is regards to bordersunlimited.com. The fax number listed is the personal cell phone number of one of the owners of the company I work for. We provide IT support for Borders Unlimited. He has been getting fax calls for two years and we finally tracked the source to your page.

The person who you have listed as the contact for the page is deceased. So we do not have a way to use his account to log in and change the page.

In addition much of the information on the page is incorrect, misleading or just bad.

I need to get this corrected as it is quite annoying.

Please let me know how we can remove the page, or take over the page or at a minimum remove the listed fax number which is listed as 502-291-5116.

Hi Mark,

Not sure if this is an appropriate question for you, so please forward it on if you think someone else is better suited to answer it. I frequently use aboutus, and I have noticed a tag that is used in your wikitext that is not standard in the mediawiki software, and not available on other sites that use mediawiki. Is the "WikiPages" tag a custom development of aboutus, or is it some kind of plugin that is available for other users of the mediawiki software? Also, is there some documentation on that tag and any other custom tags aboutus uses in its wikitext?

store issues/poor employee staff

Mr. Dilley,I'm sending you this email in reference to my aggravating visit in Wal-Mart in Selmer Tennessee at approximately 8:00pm til almost 9:00pm.I traveled exactly 58.1 miles to go to this store for great clearance buys.While shopping there was an announcement made "that there was a red light special for 15 minutes for all clearance merchandise being an additional 50% off the clearance price which you would have to get marked before leaving the area and would be for the next 15 minutes only". When we got back to clearance isles there had to of been at least 20-25 people already there getting items. WE selected what we wanted then was told was not this merchandise. Then a second announcement was made of just cloths and shoes but nothing was mentioned of the prior announcement.Of course being upset we went straight to management. The only person made available to us was an assistant manager by the name of Glen which was of no help and rude. He insinuated we were all lying which was a total of about 10 people at that time, because everyone else left their baskets and walked off.We told him we wanted the manager then. He came back to where we were at the rear of the store near lawn and garden and stated the manager said no not honoring the mistake made.Contact was made by phone he stated. We then asked for cooperate he stated we would not get anyone.We asked for someone else and he returned with someone who had just came in to work which she was not there to even hear announcement but commented we are only human and people do make mistakes. I stated when mistakes are made they should be resolved and dealt with, as did everyone else standing there agreed.She stated they would do nothing. The few of us there exchanged numbers while the Wal-Mart employees were still standing there to all contact you guys because it simply was not right the way they did not handle the problem/mistake at hand. Not 25-30 people could of misunderstood what announcement an employee made mistake or no mistake!I planned on purchasing all items I had already put in my basket before that was made and all of which I added to my basket to purchase,until Wal-Mart employee's so wrongfully treated many customers. I did make a list and cost of all items I had planned on purchasing but did not no thanks to dishonest "management" employees who did not want to resolve issue because of a "human employee making a honest mistake". I am very upset and angry I drove 58.1 miles one way to shop at Wal-Mart in Selmer.I shop WalMart very frequently and may think twice about my future return. I am a Credit card holder as well,which I may also close that account because of service received. This was totally unfair and I hope you can help. If you are not the person to handle this matter,please forward to the correct person.I greatly appreciate your time in reading this and would appreciate contact.

I am so glad that you have shown a real interest in the benefits of Medical Marijuana for Children. Every state that has legalized Medical Cannabis is different in how they regulate it. California is probably the most forward thinking of all states about medical pot. In California, medical marijuana is reccomended to children who suffer from a variety of ailments, including but not limited to Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(ADHD), Leukemia and all other forms cancer in children. Watch this link, it is to Youtube, and the Keith Olberman show who interviewed an expert that advocates the use of medical marijuana for treatment of ADD in children instead of Ritalin. Keeping the internet open for information is key to the survival of Freedom. Without the internet as a completely open tool, it will be destined to fail.

The truth is kids and adults will always smoke marijuana and use drugs, it has been going on since as far as we know. It is human to want to experience altered states of consciousness, it is not abnormal, or immoral, it is completely normal to wish to explore ones mind with substances. Name one group or culture that does not use one drug regularly, we are surrounded by drugs all day long, it is part of us as a species; We like To Get Stoned

Laws and popular beliefs about drugs often change, and are not so static. Modern Anti-Marijuana notions came out of the era of jim crow laws, and the Nixon Administration, two terrible blotches on American History in many respects. When one realizes how Cannabis was made illegal, and the racist reefer madness propaganda that has filtered down to our children, one might begin to understand the scope of the sickness that is the law. Targeting Minorities, and Blues and Jazz Musicians (such as Louis Armstrong), along with mexican immigrants, the first marijuana laws were passed in congress, amidst fears of how it makes the minorities act. These laws will not FOREVER Be reality, They will change.

Letting the internet and aboutus conform to the whim of one nations ignorant drug laws and moralizing is missing the whole point of the what the internet stands for-----FREEDOM

The internet is not an American Tool to spread what it believes all over the World.

It transcends national boundaries and cultures

The Internet Belongs To All of US-----Our descendents will pride AboutUS for not listening to the ignorances of the time, seeing through the muck, and becoming a true beacon of human history and knowledge. Just as the loss of the Library at Alexandria in Egypt was lost by the ignorance of people who out of a lust for power, destroyed treasures and knowledge of immeasurable value, that caused Europe to slumber in 1,000 years of DARKNESS, until our modern contemporaries rediscovered what was known in the Library: Censoring knowledge to those who truly seek it(children), will perpetuate ignorance and fear about drugs.

WE MUST NOT LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN HERE

Copernicus wrote a book that was called (On The Revolution of Celestial Spheres). This book was banned immediately by the Powers at be, and especially to kept away from children, because of its satanic verses. Those "Satanic Verses" by Copernicus described the Sun as the Center of the Solar System, and the Earth going around the sun.

Don't Censor information that truly belongs to ALL OF US, including children. All information should be made available to children so they can make the correct decision about their lives and if or how to use drugs. Trying to censor the knowledge will only cause more fear, pain and incorrect use of drugs. In the memory of those like Kepler, and Copernicus, who dared to think outside the norm, do not Censor Drug Info from kids.

Do not treat the internet like an american policy tool, or you will fail to make this a viable organization.

And if you do decide to Burn the Books afterall, and squelch out the light of Medical Marijuana, then I hope you also flag all of the anti-drug websites also, because as we all know, knowledge is power, and if you truly wish to control how the children think and learn, you would destroy all knowledge of the drugs in totality, If you don't I will, Everyday I will make sure and flag all of the anti-drug sites to make my point.

The choice is yours whether to council fear and ignorance to children. Would you rather your child not know how to use the drug properly? Out of ignorance, perhaps killing themselves in the process. If your kid Just had information that the drug was harmful, and not to use it, but did it anyways, because of the natural human curiousity to experience altered states, and overdosed out of ignorance. Could you Live With That?? Amsterdam and many forward thinking parts of our planet, hand out heroin needles for free, to drug users, and councils them on using drugs safely. Instead of counciling ignorance and oppression, Amsterdam councils information, and Freedom.

The seat of the European Enlightenment was in Amsterdam, because they were a safe haven from the thought control of imperial dominated Europe. Galileo, Copernicus, many of the greats of our history, fled to Holland during the enlightenment in order to escape persecution and death at the hands of those in power throughout Europe. Free from thought control, Holland allowed knowledge and information to flourish, causing a flood of new discoveries, and inventions that have shaped our modern society.

Information Creates Knowledge, Censorship Prevents Knowledge----In Holland where information is available, and drugs legal, drug use has gone down by native dutch adults and children. In America where ignorance is encouraged, and fear of police common, more and more kids are getting high.....I wonder if there is a correlation with increased information and knowledge about drugs, and a decreased usage of drugs??????????????????

The Internet is like Holland, it is the seat of our current enlightenment and dispersement of new knowledge. Allowing overprotectionist policies regarding children, and allowing ignorance about drugs, is the WRONG THING TO DO

Hey Mark, I'm working on showing our growth in Active Members.
I know that the "definition" is a bit subjective right now. I'm wondering if you can tell me what the parameters are at this point and what you think about making the qualifications a bit more transparent? Skype and community review

Hey Mark. The conference call was really worthwhile even though I could only hear half of it due to feedback and static. NZ will have naked dsl in Sept but VOIP doesn't work well long distance (works ok in NZ I am told) and wont be improved until June 08. I used to use Paltalk well but that was on a better computer (son has left home now so desktop and laptop here are rather basic ones). I used the desktop for the call and it's only a celeron so it was ok (on wired dsl). Laptop still not working well on Skype but that is also caused by the IP connection (wireless) which is lagging. Even on wired dsl it isn't good.

I'm going to the gym now. Will try to call you some other time when I see you online and see if I can get my Skype working (di.heap). The giveitheaps one I set up on desktop computer. Do you get it. Give It Heaps (from surname Heap or is that a local funny expression)? Can I add another user to that skype like add my one too?

I like the DailyFun page. I wish more people would add items to it. Also I suggest a link to the AboutUs page as I only found that last week and it does help to explain who we are (at least who we think we are right now) LOL User:Di | talk

By allowing libelous remarks and derogatory statements you are allowing the defacement of our site.I left an unbiased comment on OUR site's description and it was reverted back to the derogatory and libelous remarks made prior by parties who are wishing to troll on your site as well as ours.Is it simply that hard to allow OUR site to be removed from your database as we have asked countless times before but only to be ignored by staff?

The edit i made is not "unconstructive" i left an UNBIASED description that will benefit 1.Our site 2.Allows your site and the parties involed with it to properly and adequtely discuss this with out allowing libelous and derogatory remarks and claims to be made to our site.If you have actually read the edit I made you could see this.How is the following description "unconstructive"?

This is a proper statement stating that there is controversy over this and where users who feel they have something to say, are being linked to the proper page.Please tell me how this is "unconstructive"? Hey Mark, a new job in web dev. des. has got me pretty busy, along with trying to fix what I'm learning is wrong with my site. Still though, I wouldn't mind participating in the AnnualCommunityReview, timing presents a problem for me in the scheduled conference calls. I think the one sched. for 2pm 22nd pdt is 7am 23rd where I am (gmt-7gmt+10), I have to leave for work at 7.30am.

The other two are for 3am friday morning and saturday morning. I'd be bad enough at 8am, after a good night's sleep, if I had the cahunas, I would just edit the page and add a schedule for 3pm Friday 24th of August. I don't have the cahunes, nor am I positive that PDT=UTC-7.

Also there's a small matter of just how previously motivated I've been to consider the topic for discussion with peers I haven't met yet. As it stands, if I'm included in a conference call, I think my best input would come from finding out what every one else wants to say about 'things' and simply responding honestly.

migrating a wiki I operate

Mark, The ChicagoCoop.net wiki is full of spam. I stay on it every day, but would love it if there were a way to migrate all the content to AboutUs, and forward the url. Do you see that as feasible?
