- you can remove your email address from your profile - I have no access to that. - then change your password to something you won't remember and it's as if you don't have an account TedErnst (talk) 06:39, 5 December 2007 (PST)
Categories - organization
I had asked for a list of categories, and Kristina responded
- There are thousands upon thousands of categories here at AboutUs with more being added as people add new categories to DomainPages. I don't know of a list of all categories, but it certainly would be overwhelmingly long. Kristina ..talk.. 12:19, 10 December 2007 (PST)
(Thanks to Vartan for showing me how to find the complete list of categories.)
What I had hoped to find out was what categories to add to a page so it would show up in the right searches. I cannot find any category hierarchy of the type I see in MediaWiki. See http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Categories. (I was hoping, for instance, that if I used the category "Boise", the page would also show up in the category "Idaho".) Indeed, I'm having trouble finding AboutUs category documentation generally. (Maybe because I'm new at using Wikis.) So it looks like if I want a page to show up in all the right places, I have to add a bunch of categories.
There's a tension between this and avoiding clutter. For instance, the Help pages point out:
- Categories allow this website to be listed among others of its kind, giving readers a way to look things up by topic. Just add relevant categories to the list. If there are more than 30 categories, also try to cut it down to only the MOST relevant. Extra clutter makes it more difficult for readers to find what they're really looking for.

Out of date sites
I was impressed when I searched for my own web page and, though there was nothing showing, your site immediately went and found my site and made a page for it.
Showing the way the site looked last month!
Your FAQ is full of info on how to stop the 'bot. But nothing at all about how to get the bot to re=visit the site and get up to date.
- Good question!! There are a couple of ways. One, since we are a wiki you can update it yourself! Or you can add Repopulate Please to the page, or if you just want the thumbnail updated - see UpdateThumbnail. Let me know if this helps! (also sent email) Best, MarkDilley | talk
Actualy, when I looked back, the thumbnail had updated - so I guess a fresh scan of teh live site is triggered automatically. But it *didn't* pick up changes in street address and contact details. Have changed these manually now. Cheers.
Change the listing of YPS Patiala
Hi:
I am the webmaster of Yadavindra Public School, Patiala. This school has been listed as ypspatiala.org which is not correct.
The correct domain is ypspatiala.in and the site has been updated recently. We request you to visit the site.
Infact ypspatiala.org is a site which just shows links on education.
Thanks & Regards,
Webmaster Yadavindra Public School, Patia
- Please check YPSPatiala.in and Ypspatiala.org now. How do they look? Feel free to edit from here. TedErnst (talk) 09:23, 19 December 2007 (PST)
Thanks a ton for the prompt response and corrective action
Webmaster, Yadavindra Public School
sarahintampa.com
I have removed my home address and home phone from the page by my domain (sarahintampa.com). I would prefer if it was de-listed from your site. Thank you. Sarah Perez
username and email address
how do you edit your username and email address? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dawnhornby (talk • contribs) .
- You can click My Preferences, to change your email address or your name which appears as your signature. User name itself can be changed only by the bureaucrats. You can let them know if you want to change your user name. Asad | *~talk~* 04:01, 2 January 2008 (PST)
