username and email address
how do you edit your username and email address? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dawnhornby (talk • contribs) .
- You can click My Preferences, to change your email address or your name which appears as your signature. User name itself can be changed only by the bureaucrats. You can let them know if you want to change your user name. Asad | *~talk~* 04:01, 2 January 2008 (PST)

EagleSupply.biz
I'm having lots & lots of trouble. I tried to change (move?) the name but lost the link, and then I tried to go back to how it was when I started, but lost the whole page - everything but the name. Now everything's gone and I can't figure out how to get it back, or even start over if I have to. I've read all the helps and I'm about ready to give up, but I don't even know how to quit. I've done lots of work on my own website, but this is real frustrating. Can anybody help me - or restore it to the original version so I can start over? Please help. Thanks, Dave (EagleSupply.biz)
- Dave, I've left you a talk page message and I think we've got it figured out. I'd love to help more, perhaps in the IRC? Best, Kristina ..talk.. 22:03, 5 January 2008 (PST)
Content Scraping
On a daily basis, this site scrapes my content and reposts it under a different name. This is copyright infringement. Please stop this NOW.
John Wallace www.localcenters.com
- John, I've edited the LocalCenters.com page per our No Bot Policy. Let me know if you have any questions, and please see AboutUs:Concerns as I think your concern is addressed there. Kristina ..talk.. 22:04, 5 January 2008 (PST)
- Also, John, I'm not sure what's happening, but we're not scraping daily. Our bot only is invoked once per website. Once we have a page, we do not scrape again. TedErnst (talk) 22:22, 6 January 2008 (PST)
question from an About Us newbie
We would like to list our website, SegueToSolar.com to the right place, but are not sure where or what is the right place?
We weren't sure to add ourselves under "segue" or "solar" or "both." any advice? We are an online store advocating changing from oil to solar. There must be something in the solar wiki on this? If not, would we be allowed to start our own classification?
thanks - M. Howell seguetosolar.com
- Hello, I just "created" a starting point for your page, just by typing "seguetosolar.com" in the "find" box up at the top of the page. That makes an automatic, basic page; you can then modify as you see fit. Check it out! seguetosolar.com As for the words "segue," "solar," etc., you're probably thinking of "categories." You can use as many different categories as you like, to assist people and web-crawling indexers in finding your site.
- Does that make any sense? Post back if you have more questions! -Pete 17:20, 8 January 2008 (PST)
Estoel.com
Please delete and re-create Estoel.com. The info on the AboutUs domain page has become out-of-date. -- Joe Cohen | Leave me a message 16:12, 12 January 2008 (PST)
- Looks like a parking lot now, so I just tagged it {{ParkingLot}}, rather than doing a repopulate. TedErnst (talk) 20:57, 12 January 2008 (PST)
Site flagged as Possible Adult Content...but is not Adult Content
Hi...I noticed a site (kittyhawk.com) that has been flagged as an Adult Content site...but it is not. I am new to AboutUs and would like help to fix this problem...thanks, Alyssa

defacement of the domain ImmobiliareSolaroli.com
Please note that the web pages as per your information related to the domain "immobiliaresolaroli.com" is not correct. The domain "immobiliaresolaroli.com" is property of the registered company Immobiliare Solaroli. This is creating problems with some web serch including the google serch that reffer to your informations. The competent authorities are investigating about this fact as per our request dated 17/12/2007. We would appreciate your prompt action on changing/updating the web page in your memory replacing with the correct one. Thank you very much
Immobiliare Solaroli
- I'm not understanding the issue. You are free to edit the DomainPage: ImmobiliareSolaroli.com. Please go ahead and do that, within the existing structure of the page. Feel free to add headings and such, but do not simply remove all the existing headings or the domain box. TedErnst (talk) 12:06, 18 January 2008 (PST)
Mr. TedErnst. Someone made a defacement changing the dns link of the domain immobiliaresolaroli.com from register.com to this website. I don't understand so far the interest, if any, in this since our company it is a small company without a relevant business turnover and located in a small town of Italy. This problem was solved after one week. The authorities are investigating in order to find out the responsible of this. I made some change yesterday on the records of this website that ware promptly cancelled. I will try again to change the records in your website, altought I don't understand why my company website suppose to appear in here.
- We have pages here ABOUT websites. The websites themselves are not here. Hopefully all is well now? Please let me know if now. TedErnst (talk) 10:42, 19 January 2008 (PST)
Change of Address
I have to change my address by this site. Let me know how to do it?
- If I am understanding your question, I think the answer is that you can click the green "edit" button on the page where your address appears and put in the new one. If this does not answer the question, please write back again. TedErnst (talk) 07:10, 20 January 2008 (PST)
My Abous us page
Hi,
I have posted an abous us page for my business whatagreatbuy.com however on the welcome from yourselves you say what about editing whatagreatbuy.net however this is NOTBold text my website and my page links to this site which I assume is a automatic response.
Can you please change the details to show the picture of my website and the correct links which is whatagreatbuy.com
Much appreciated. User:Whatagreatbuy (whatagreatbuy.com)
- I'm having difficulty leaving your a message on your talk page because of the redirects so here we are. I apologize for the .net/.com confusion in my original message/welcome to you. I think the confusion is that somehow the the thumbnail code for the WhatAGreatBuy.com page pulls the thumbnail for the .net page. If you hit the big green edit tab at the top left of the page you should see that I mean - just change the .net to .com between the <thumbnail> and </thumbnail> tags. I'd love to use the AboutUs LiveChat to chat with you about this if you'd like. Let me know and have a great day, Kristina ..talk.. ..chat.. 15:32, 24 January 2008 (PST)
children
they are allowing people to post children and also allow people to impersonate others on this site, I have proof
KaEr-Media.org
I didn't know where exactly I should post this, so here I go. I found a domain page that contains an external link, which points to a zip file. According to the text, it claims to be a virus removal tool, but since it doesn't come from a well known company, I have to say, I bet it's something really nasty. This is the domain page: KaEr-Media.org. I didn't know how to flag it or what action to take (I am not brave enough to click on that and test the "so kindly-offered" tool and see how it "works"), so now it's all up to you guys ;) Cle Silva 15:46, 25 January 2008 (PST)
- That is interesting. I don't know much about this, but I went ahead and removed that link. Kristina ..talk.. ..chat.. 15:52, 25 January 2008 (PST)
AboutUs Portal Sponsors
I realized on the top of the pages in a portal:
PortlandTech Stoel Rives, sponsor of PortlandTech Promote My Company!
Now the PortlandTech goes back to homepage of the portal, I like. But shouldn't the Stoel Rives part link to his AboutUS page or site not to wiki?
--Nick Burrus [ Talk - Contribs ] 19:01, 25 January 2008 (PST)
- Nick, I'm not sure what you're seeing. Could you give a link and perhaps a description or a screenshot of the area you're talking about? TedErnst (talk) 00:40, 26 January 2008 (PST)
Personal info posted without permission
I was agast to find that my personal home address and home phone number and the email address I guard most closely, the one that I have kept entirely private so that only my closest friends have it, these were all published online in plain public view on your website.
I removed my personal information which I believe you had no right to pubish, or if you do have some legal right to, it is certainly lousy netiquette for you to have done so.
There should be a policy on your site whereby people are asked for approval before their home addresses, home phone numbers and personal email addresses are published on your website.
I know it is a wiki and no central person is responsible for all content. But couldn't you at least set up some filters so that no email address can be uploaded to the site without that address being sent a message asking approval, and a filter that flags and stops upload of phone numbers and maybe physical addresses too? The person uploading such information can then be required to show that they have the right to do so, specifically the approval of the person whose contact information they tring to publish.
- Name withheld and pretty irked at you
- Hello! I am not part of the AboutUs staff, but I guess I know whats going on. It's the WHOIS page that is making your personal info public. Give it a try, visit the WHOIS website (www.whois.org), type your domain in the "whois lookup" text box and click the Go! button, you will see your info reported.
- That's an absurd, I agree, I had the same problem as was very shocked and upset when I saw my home address and phone made public on the Internet.
- To solve this, just ask the registrar of your website domain how can you opt out and have your personal info ommited. My webhost service made it for me, replacing my data for "personal info". Good luck! Cle Silva 07:16, 26 January 2008 (PST)
Can't flag that page
I just can't flag the following domain page as adult content, because it doesn't have the FLAG button on the right top corner (well, at least that button doesn't show to me).
This is the domain page: www.users.adultspace.com/sopinknwet
I tried to edit and put "Category:PossibleAdultContent", but it still didn't work. I wonder if it's some kind of bug that is being explored by people who don't want their adult pages flagged. Cle Silva 05:53, 27 January 2008 (PST)
- Hello! It looks like User:Squeamish did this for you. On pages that don't have the flag button, adding the Category:PossibleAdultContent will actually work although you won't see the flag notation in the top right. If you'd like to test this out just log out, and try going to this page. Best, Kristina ..talk.. ..chat.. 16:52, 27 January 2008 (PST)

My website is whatagreatbuy.com
On my user page there is a link to whatagreatbuy.net which is not my site and also the welcome page asks me to edit whatagreatbuy.net which is not my site.
Can I remove this site and get a link to my own website like it should be and have my site shown on the thumbnail instead?
Thanks

FRAUD!!!!
You have someone using your services, claiming to be a Russian, meeting men in USA,wanting money to come to USA,promising marriage, supposedly a 24 year old college student, studying abroad. All i can give you is her email address. She goes by the natasha and her email address is: Now I thought I'd notify you first of this fraud, before I report it further. This could be a man, preying on desperate lonely people. I expect a responce.Thank You for listening. My name is Mallory Blake: I hope you can stop this from happening on your site.
- I have sent you an e-mail. Do you believe this fraud is taking place on this site, AboutUs.org, or is it perhaps on another website that we have a domain page on? Let me know, Kristina ..talk.. ..chat.. 21:08, 28 January 2008 (PST)
What to do with domainpages like this?
I frequently find this kind of domain page. It has nothing but comma-separated keywords. Cle Silva 12:10, 29 January 2008 (PST)

Hacked images
This duplicates and supplements my messages to Mark and Ward. See User_talk:MarkDilley#PortlandPortal badge and round WikiTour images hacked. As I type, a number of images are being hacked, including:
Also have a look at Ward Cunningham where someone has put up a floating banner. -- Joe Cohen | Leave me a message 08:11, 3 February 2008 (PST)
- It looks like Ward reverted everything, and I've now locked all 3 images so this won't happen again. by the way, Joe, you can get to the WikiPage for an image with this format: http://aboutus.org/Image:ImageName.png so http://images.aboutus.org/images/5/54/LASIKPortalMember.png becomes Image:LASIKPortalMember.png -- TedErnst (talk) 10:14, 3 February 2008 (PST)
- Thanks. I did that, got redirected, and was not alert enough to click on the redirect link. :-( Anyhow, it's best that you and Ward fixed them so that you could protect them from editing. -- Joe Cohen | Leave me a message 11:00, 3 February 2008 (PST)
Site flagged as Possible Adult Content...but is not Adult Content
Hi...I noticed a site (apoyoyrescate.es) that has been flagged as an Adult Content site...but it is not. I am new to AboutUs and would like help to fix this problem...thanks, ARPA.
- Thanks for the message. To un-flag a page, you will need to log in so you can click "yes" to view the possible adult content. Then click edit. Scroll to the bottom of the edit box and remove the Category:PossibleAdultContent line, then click save. Please let me know if you need more help. TedErnst (talk) 13:09, 3 February 2008 (PST)
- We probably need to develop a page (Remove AdultContent Flag?) about how to do this task, and I moved this comment over to User talk:Arpa as well. ~~ MarkDilley
- I would like to take this chance to point out something I think is a flaw in this adult content flagging system: it's easier to unflag a page than to flag it. I know this is a wiki, but when it comes to things like adult content, this shouldn't be like this. I don't know the reason why the adult content flag was created, but if it was to protect teens and children from this kind of thing, I think they are not protected at all. Every week I flag dozens of adult pages in an attempt to make AboutUs a safer place for all, but hundreds of new adult pages come in at the same time. That's alright, but what if someone decide to unflag them all just for fun? I think that once flagged, a page should only be unflagged by a staff member. Vartan created a bot to automatically flag adult content pages, which is very well done. But since it's so easy to unflag these pages, what if someone else create a bot to revert it?
